FORTHCOMING… 50+ year Admiration for an old civilization now a major power
A recent visit to India on a highly technical topic, allowed me to also make a side trip along the Memory lane about the country.
1976 it started with a small book on “Economics as if people mattered” that served as a watershed for our current thinking.
70s, … it started in the early 70s when, I stumbled into the book entitled small is beautiful. (see above) .This book called for an examination of mainstream economics. It advocated for the role of communities and intermediate technology. It cited some villages of India as example how small could be beautiful!
1986 my first visit to India (Pondicherry) to be part of a seminar workshop on ecological agriculture . The venue was partly in an ashram. The interactions and the rural scene told me that the idea of “small is beautiful “is really possible
2026 Forty years later. I come back. this time to the Northwestern Part, For a technical concern. India continuous to be an agricultural leader. It has also become an ICT and industrial power. In the rural visits. I realize that the green revolution has been firmly established, but I still could glean element’s of “small is beautiful.”
